This year´s United Nations´ International Day of Cooperatives will be celebrated under the theme of "Cooperatives and Employment Promotion". It will link to the five year review of the World Summit for Social Development (WSSD) which focused on promoting productive employment, social integration and reducing poverty.
In addition to contributing materials for a press pack which is prepared by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), COPAC will also organize an Open Forum on the theme of the International Day. The Forum, Decent Work: Can cooperatives can make a difference?, to be held in Geneva (Switzerland) on 28 June 2000. It will be an advance event to celebrate the International Day.
This year, the press pack including messages from the ICA and the United Nations Secretary-General, should be available well in advance on the Day to enable cooperatives, governments and others to use the materials in the celebration of the UN International Day of Cooperatives as well as ICA´s own International Co-operative Day.
