The Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) will organize an exhibition on cooperatives at the United Nations Office in Geneva from 30 June to 11 July 1997 on the occasion of the 3rd United Nations International Day of Cooperatives and the 75th International Co-operative Day celebrated by the International Co-operative Alliance.
The exhibit will include photos, posters, and printed materials that show how cooperatives are contributing to the economic and social development of the communities in which they operate. It will also highlight the important contribution of cooperatives to food security - the theme of this year's International Day. Information on the activities of the members of COPAC will also be available. The aim of the exhibit is to sensitize government delegates, the United Nations secretariat, and the general public to the significance of the cooperative movement by showing that cooperatives exist in all sectors of activity and in nearly all countries of the world. In focusing on the successful activities of the cooperative movement, COPAC hopes that national and local governments, multilateral and non-governmental organizations will seek partnerships and open dialogue with cooperatives on how to collaborate on issues of mutual importance. |
